MURDESHWAR, KARNATAKA

Murdeshwar temple is a newly constructed one on the seashore and forms part of Bhatkal district of North Karnataka.  Its construction was funded by businessman and philanthropist Sri Rama Nagappa Shetty.    The height of Lord Shiva is 123 ft and took two years to complete.   The Rajagopura of the shiva temple is of 75 Metres height.  A small hillock also has been made in which the scenes of Gokarna story and  are depicted.   Beach nearby offers all types sports for every age.

On 03 04 22, after having darshan at Sree Mookambika temple, Kollur we went to Murdeshwar at a distance of 61 Kms in about 1 hour and 5 Min.   We had lunch at 02.30 pm in the Kamat Hotel at Murdeshwar and settled in a Hotel.   In the evening, we went to the Beach and also had time to have darshan at Murdeshwar.  In the hillock, the story of Ravana while taking the Atmalinga, how he had to leave in Gokarna is also depicted.  We will see the legend of Gokarna in a separate blog.

There is no dress code like other temples here.  People are expected to wear decent dress.

Temple Timings:

06:00 AM to 12:00 AM
15:00 PM to 20:15 PM

We did not go to any island resorts nearby. Netrani Island is situated at 19 km from Murudeshwar in the Arabian Sea. The island can be reached by hiring fishing boats from Bhatkal.   Also, taxis and auto-rickshaws are available to reach the island.
